We are delighted to share the latest updates on the BIOCONNECT project, including our recent participation in key events that have greatly contributed to the growth of the Baltic biotechnology ecosystem. These events have been invaluable in expanding our network and fostering collaboration across the region.

Event Participation and Stakeholder Engagement

Throughout several impactful events, we engaged with numerous experts from the life sciences field, connecting with a wide range of stakeholders. These meetings have helped identify new partners and strengthen the biotech community:

Manufacturing Innovation Valley Event

Our partner, Donatas Staniulis from LithuaniaBIO, presented the BIOCONNECT project at the Manufacturing Innovation Valley event. This major event focused on electromagnetic modeling solutions for the life sciences, healthcare, and medical technology industries.

             Key Highlights:

  • Donatas showcased the BIOCONNECT project, emphasizing its role in unifying the biotech sector across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The event also explored local ecosystems and their integration into the broader biotech landscape.
  • The presentation highlighted the collaborative environment within the biotech industry, addressing both challenges and opportunities. The discussion underscored the importance of innovation and partnership in driving the biotech sector forward.

 

ECHAlliance The Global Health Connector @ HLTH Europe

Donatas Staniulis, representing LithuaniaBIO, recently took part in the “ECHAlliance Global Health Connector” event at HLTH Europe, contributing to the panel titled “International: Fostering Wider European Collaboration.” This discussion was a key feature of ECHAlliance’s presentation of five crucial ecosystems across Europe, including Finland, Romania, Denmark, Spain, and Lithuania, which serve as vital connectors within the broader European ECHAlliance Ecosystem Community.

Alongside Donatas, the panel featured industry leaders including Ion-Gheorghe Petrovai, MD (Transylvania Ecosystem), Jesper Grønbæk (Copenhagen Ecosystem), Montse Daban (Catalonia Ecosystem), and Heidi Tikanmäki (Finland Ecosystem), with Andy Bleaden, ECHAlliance’s Community Director, serving as the moderator. Together, they explored the potential of enhancing European collaboration to advance innovative health solutions.

  • Donatas showcased the BIOCONNECT project, emphasizing its role in unifying the biotech sector across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The event also explored local ecosystems and their integration into the broader biotech landscape.

Round Table Discussion on Innovation Promotion

Our partner Elina Priede from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis participated in a round table discussion on innovation promotion, alongside Jan Sandred, Program Director at the Department of Innovation Management and Horizon Europe Program Committee Expert, Vinnova.

The discussion, organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Latvia in cooperation with the Latvian Council of Science, provided a fruitful platform to share experiences from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, including insights from the BIOCONNECT project.

  • Elina presented the BIOCONNECT project, emphasizing its role in promoting innovation within the Baltic biotech ecosystem. The discussion explored the importance of collaboration and the exchange of experiences in fostering innovation, particularly within the framework of Horizon Europe.
  • The event highlighted the strategic role of BIOCONNECT in advancing biotech innovation and underscored the value of sharing best practices across international platforms.

 

Latitude59 Event

The Biocatalyst Foundation, one of our BIOCONNECT project partners, hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion at Latitude59 titled “Biotechnology Reshaping Everything: From Curing Cancers to a Fossil-Free Economy.”

Key Highlights:

  • The panel featured industry leaders, including Simon Trancart from Ginkgo Bioworks, Marilene Pavan from LanzaTech, Bouke de Jong from Planet-b.io, Mika Kukkurainen from Nordic Foodtech VC, and Peep Pitk from Fibenol. Moderated by Andrii Shekhirev, co-founder of the Biocatalyst Foundation, the session focused on biotechnology’s transformative potential.
  • The discussion explored the disruptive impact of biotechnology across various sectors and strategies to foster innovation in Europe and the Baltics. This session was a standout at Latitude59, drawing significant attention from biotech professionals and general attendees alike.

 

Breakfast Biotech Panel:

As a side event to Latitude59, the Biocatalyst Foundation hosted a Breakfast Biotech Panel. This networking event brought together the biotech community, with special guests Simon Trancart and Peep Pitk. The open mic session provided an opportunity for attendees to share their ideas and updates.

 

Deeptech Attelier Event

The Deeptech Attelier event brought together stakeholders from the deep tech ecosystem, including entrepreneurs, scientists, technology developers, investors, and public organizations. During the event, the BIOCONNECT project was a key topic in a panel session at the Biocosmic stage.

Key Highlights:

  • The panel discussion on the “Baltic Biotech Ecosystem” was organized by the Biocatalyst Foundation. It featured partners from the BIOCONNECT project, including Donatas Stasiulis representing LithuaniaBIO, Igors Berkovics from the Biocatalyst Foundation, and other key participants such as Emilio Parisini from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and Janis Locs from RTU Institute of Biomaterials and Bioengineering.
  • The discussion delved into the biotechnology ecosystem across the Baltic states—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Topics included the collaborative environment, challenges, and the role of the BIOCONNECT project in unifying the biotech ecosystem.

 

Green Horizon Summit 2024

Our partner, Donatas Staniulis from LithuaniaBIO, presented the BIOCONNECT project at the “Green Horizon Summit 2024“, which took place on May 13 in Vilnius. This major event focused on advancing innovation and economic growth within the bioeconomy sector through collaborations between scientific research and the business community.

                  Key Highlights:

  • Donatas showcased the BIOCONNECT project, emphasizing its role in fostering collaboration across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to drive innovation and stimulate economic development within the bioeconomy sector.
  • The panel underscored the importance of innovation in advancing the bioeconomy and showcased examples of successful partnerships between scientific institutions and businesses.
  • His presentation also highlighted how the LithuaniaBIO association is enhancing cross-institutional cooperation and increasing Lithuania’s participation in international bioeconomy projects.
